Do Messages Deliver When Phone Is Dead?

This post will explain whether or not texts can be sent while a phone is dead and why.

It makes no difference which messaging app you use to send and receive texts, but you may have questioned if you need to resend the message or if it is delivered even if the recipient’s phone is turned off.

Anyone who has ever sent a message, whether via iMessage, WhatsApp, SMS/MMS, Instagram, Signal, etc., has probably wondered about this issue at some point.

This post will explain whether or not texts can be sent while a phone is dead and why.

Do Messages Deliver When Phone is Dead?

No. No matter what method you use to send your SMS, they won’t get through if the recipient’s phone is turned off. It won’t be delivered; it will be sent.

There are three phases to texting.

Sent: When a message is sent from a mobile device, it is routed through the servers of your messaging app or your network operator.

Delivered: This is the section when the recipient’s phone receives the message from the server.

The message is sent from your network operator’s servers to the recipient’s servers and finally to the recipient’s phone if you are using SMS/MMS and the recipient is with a different network operator.

The recipient’s phone must be turned on for a message to be delivered.

Read: At this point, the message is acknowledged, opened, and read by the recipient.

How To Tell If A Message Has Been Sent, Delivered, And Read

There are signs that your message has made it through each of the three text-sending message steps, depending on your provider.

There is no way to know if your message was received or read when using SMS or MMS.

The only way to know for sure is to wait for a response from the person you sent the message to.

When a message is sent in iMessage, a small sent counter appears beneath the message.

When the recipient opens and delivers your message, it changes to Delivered and Read, respectively.

This also applies to Whats app, where a single grey check is next to the message after it is sent.

When the message is delivered, it changes to two grey ticks, and once it has been read, it changes to a blue two-tick.

All that’s available on Twitter indicates when messages are delivered and received. When your message is opened, the counter beneath changes from sent to read.

Conclusion

You no longer have to worry about whether your messages will go through if your phone dies.

You don’t have to be concerned about missing messages even if your phone is turned off. The sent messages will appear on your phone once turned on.
